Welcome to Rootfable, a private family-history service by Edge Case Studios. By using rootfable.app you agree to these terms.
Early access
Rootfable is in early access. Features may change, and while we work hard to keep everything safe and available, we recommend keeping copies of irreplaceable photos, documents, and recordings you upload.
Your content is yours
You and your family keep all rights to the family history you add. You grant us only the permission needed to store it and display it to your family's members — that's what the service is. Any member of a family can export it, and the family's administrators can see when an export happened. Living relatives are included as names only, without their dates.
Your responsibilities
Only upload content you have the right to share, and be mindful that family history involves other people — living relatives' information should be added with the care you'd want for your own. Don't use Rootfable to harass, impersonate, infringe copyright, or store unlawful content, and don't attempt to access other families' data or disrupt the service.
Accounts and families
Family administrators control membership and approve contributions in their family space. We may suspend accounts or spaces that violate these terms.
Plans and billing
Rootfable has a free plan and a paid one, and the paid plan is priced per family rather than per person.
- Free — up to 250 people and 1 GB of media (photos, documents, and video clips), for as long as you like. One owner can keep up to two free family spaces.
- Rootfable Family — $5.99 per month or $59 per year, for unlimited people and 10 GB of media. One subscription covers everyone in that family; there are no per-member fees.
A subscription is bought by the family's owner, renews automatically at the price shown when it started, and can be cancelled at any time from the billing portal. Payments are handled by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. We will give you notice before any price change affects you.
If a paid plan ends — whether you cancel it or a payment finally fails — the family returns to the free plan and nothing you have already added is deleted. A tree that grew past 250 people keeps every one of them, and your media stays where it is. What the free limits stop is adding new people or uploading new files until you are back under them or subscribed again. You can export the whole tree at any time, on either plan.
We don't refund part-used months or years. If something has gone wrong, though, we would far rather hear from you than have you read this paragraph — write to us and we'll put it right.
Deleting a family
An owner can delete their family space at any time. Members lose access immediately, and we keep the data for about 30 days before destroying it permanently — so a deletion made by mistake can be undone within that window. After that it is gone and we cannot bring it back. Export a copy first if you might want one.
The service is provided "as is"
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rootfable is provided without warranties of any kind, and Edge Case Studios' liability arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you have paid for it.
Changes
We may update these terms; meaningful changes will be reflected in the date above. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
